Bolivia’s Salt Flats, the world’s largest optical illusion?

Standing in the middle of the Bolivian Salt Flats plays an impossible trick on the eyes!

The seemingly endless horizon encompasses every direction. At times, there appear to be no mountains with which to navigate, leaving you feeling completely disorientated!

The salt desert is an experience that we’ll never forget. According to our slightly eccentric half French/half Dutch guide,Frank ‘the salt flats are as big as Belguim!’ We’ve not checked that out and quite ‘frankly’ we don’t want to!!

However, despite being in one of the world’s unique remote locations, the most striking part of the experience can be said to be the hoard of tourists creatively attempting their perspective photographs!

The photos you take on the salt flats can become a strange badge of honour; a bragging right to prove you have visited this distant part of the earth!

I can tell you, they are great fun to play around with!! Check out a few of our attempts below.

If you get the chance, definitely visit!
